\nPlease Note: This event is not open to the public on-site at the Park, it can only be viewed online. To mark the current challenging moment and build towards the culminating works for her ‘36.5’ series (which were rescheduled to 2021 due to the Coronavirus), the artist Sarah Cameron Sunde has curated a ‘36.5’ virtual event for this September 5, 2020 \u2013 which can be viewed online anytime between 6:43am\u20137:09pm EST, the duration of a full tidal cycle.<\/p>\n
Sarah Cameron Sunde will live-stream the virtual event from Socrates’ Hallets Cove beach. In addition to sharing videos from previous ‘36.5’ works sporadically throughout the day, there will be several talks, including with ‘36.5’ collaborators, NYU faculty and students, and Socrates Executive Director, John Hatfield. Each hour that passes will be marked with a 5-10 minute performance, action, or simple report from the water from somewhere in the world.<\/p>\n

\nABOUT ‘36.5’
\n‘36.5 \/ A Durational Performance with the Sea’ (2013 \u2013 present) is a series of nine site-specific performance and video works by artist Sarah Cameron Sunde created in locations across the world that are threatened by rising sea levels.<\/p>\n
The artist began the work in 2013 in response to Hurricane Sandy. The project is based in the simple, poetic, and personal act of the artist standing still in a natural body of water for a full tidal cycle \u2013 12hrs 48mins \u2013 allowing the water to rise and fall over her own body.<\/p>\n
Over the course of seven years, ‘36.5’ grew into a series of large-scale site-specific performances and video works made in collaboration with local communities in locations all over the world: Maine, Mexico, San Francisco, Netherlands, Bangladesh, Brazil, Kenya.<\/p>\n
The final two works in the series were scheduled to take place this year \u2013 in Aotearoa\/New Zealand on March 29 and Socrates\u2019 Hallets Cove on September 5 \u2013 but were postponed due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
