\nABOUT SOCRATEENS
\n*WE’RE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2020\/2021 PROGRAM!*<\/p>\n
Socrateens is a year-long experimental art-making program for eight teens selected from various NYC high schools. Each Socrateen receives a monthly artist\u2019s stipend of $100.<\/p>\n
Meeting weekly at the Park, the Socrateens work closely together to develop sculpture-making, drawing, performance, and photo\/video skills. The program also includes visits to artist studios, museums, and galleries. (The 2019-2020 academic year Socrateens transitioned to an online curriculum due to the Coronavirus pandemic).<\/p>\n
The 2019-2020 Socrateens contributed to the \u2018MONUMENTS NOW\u2018 exhibition at Socrates with a multifaceted project that includes a zine titled \u2018Monuments Decoder\u2018 and a collectively-realized sculpture installation. They also created an exhibition of their own artwork on the Park’s Instagram @socratespark \u2013\u00a0check it out!

We’re looking for a diverse group of teen artists, who would like to explore art making in new ways. You must be committed to your artwork, able to travel on your own (we will provide MTA cards), and able to join classes by Zoom.<\/p>\n
If you would like to join Socrateens, email the instructor, Doug, at dp@socratessculpturepark.org and ask for an application. It\u2019s quick and easy to apply, we’d like to see 3-5 of your original artworks.<\/p>\n

\nDouglas Paulson is a Queens-based artist and educator who has done collaborative and participatory artworks in institutions and streets of Denmark, Germany, South Korea, Iceland, New York City, and other places near and far.
