{"id":5826,"date":"2026-06-29T09:57:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T09:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/artwork\/distracted-by-the-impossible-notions-of-failure-and-clarity\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T06:30:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T06:30:34","slug":"distracted-by-the-impossible-notions-of-failure-and-clarity","status":"publish","type":"artwork","link":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/artwork\/distracted-by-the-impossible-notions-of-failure-and-clarity\/","title":{"rendered":"Distracted by the Impossible Notions of Failure and Clarity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ten 5-sided Plexiglas cubes stacked to form a pyramid. \u00a0One side of this wall is open to reveal cavities.\/ Balloons will be added to the piece weekly. \u00a0Some may fly away or become misplaced. \u00a0There will be an accumulation of balloons in the air and on the ground.\/The Plexiglas boxes are modeled after my parents\u2019 speakers from the 70\u2019s. \u00a0The shape says \u201csound\u201d to me. \u00a0I became interested in sound and how it permeates a living space when my son was born. \u00a0There was sound now that I could not control. \u00a0The stack of speakers represented the sound of sheer terror as my son was waking up from countless nightmares. \u00a0As he has gotten older the nightmares have subsided and the sound has been reduced in our dwelling. \u00a0While vacationing this summer we slept in the same room as our son. \u00a0To our surprise he giggled and laughed often in his sleep. \u00a0The sound of the speaker now represents the connection of mind and mouth. \u00a0 The possibilities and the joy, the things I cannot see. \u00a0For this reason, the tower of speakers are clear, allowing all possibilities and at the same time disappearing among everything. \/The balloons are an important component of my process. \u00a0I like to place balloons near or among sculpture to assure people of the event taking place. \u00a0It is like an exclamation point. \u00a0I believe the cycle of the balloon is a wondrous thing. \u00a0So high and when it begins to fall, there is a span of an hour where the balloon can\u2019t make up its mind if it will stay high or fall. \u00a0It begins to travel. \u00a0The act of gardening in the piece, is very important. \u00a0I want to keep it growing without weeding it. \u00a0To in a sense show life and death and the space in between those events.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/socratessculpturepark.org\/artist\/david-brooks\/PREVIOUS\u00a0|\u00a0https:\/\/socratessculpturepark.org\/artist\/zack-davis\/NEXT<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":5827,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"exhibition-theme":[],"class_list":["post-5826","artwork","type-artwork","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/artwork\/5826","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/artwork"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/artwork"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/5827"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5826"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"exhibition-theme","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/socratessculpturepark-2026.kudos.nyc\/it\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/exhibition-theme?post=5826"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
