A curated series presented by Pioneers Go East Collective, Crossroads Series features
interdisciplinary artists who explore new genres and known performance and art-making
modes to share their creative practices with other artists and their audiences. Each evening, we
witness different generations of artists dealing with actual, day-to-day, contemporary
challenges to further discussion between artists and to activate a network of exchange and

My creative practice is a spiritual journey through the themes of death and rebirth, expressed through dance, video, and sculpture. Each work is a manifestation of personal as political. Embracing an Afro-futuristic perspective, I intertwine ancestral wisdom with visionary concepts to create art that transcends temporal boundaries. I channel spiritual transformation and renewal, offering viewers intense moments of reflection and resonance on existence and the cyclical nature of life. My creations invite contemplation of the rhythms that connect and separate us. Breathing life into alternative narratives pertaining to the black experience, presenting a harmonious blend of past and future.
Ching-I Chang
My creative process as a conceptual-dance landscaper, performer, and human being is practiced through kinesthetic empathy, embodiment of harmony and care, and supporting the inter-grants (international and immigrant artists) and unsung people. My work shares the postcolonial stories of Japanese Occupation in Taiwan and investigates through the nostalgia of home’s natural landscape and one’s “natural” embodiment in the city-scape and foreign-scape. As the body of the colonized, foreignized, and immigrated, I am molded into ambiguities of otherness. When my natural home body is asked to be assimilated and integrated into contrariety, my essence of being becomes invisible, masked under foreignness. Through the process of understanding my ancestral roots, I, the peripheral/subaltern often create works outside of the mainstream. Understanding the world through the lens of otherness, I seek to facilitate the process of listening through the sense of responsibility for the environment and the physical presence that embraces all bodies and spirits – the life harmony. My hope is through creating and sharing stories of conceptual landscapes and dances, we can become human together.
Remi Harris
Remi Harris is a dance artist, curator, creative producer, and arts leader based in NYC. Her dynamic career spans formal and experimental collaborations with trailblazers and contemporaries across a wide array of platforms—on stage, in film, on illegal rooftops, during demonstrations, on terrible floors, and ice-skating rinks. Grounded in the legacy of her mentors and driven by black female representation in all spaces, her work centers inclusive community-building and a commitment to fostering meaningful artistic connections. As a performer, she has collaborated with Sydnie L. Mosley Dances, Keigwin + Company, Olek, Racoco, Christal Brown/INSPIRIT, Coco Karol, Ed Woodham, Catherine Malandrino, Kay Ottinger, Katie Workum, Okwui Okpokwasili, Peter Bjorn, and others. Her choreography has been presented at Abrons Art Center (NYC), Brooklyn Studios for Dance (NYC), Danspace Project (NYC), Teatro La Tea (NYC), Triskelion Arts (NYC), CPR – Center for Performance Research (NYC), The Actors Fund Theater (NYC), The Brick Theater (NYC), Thalian Hall (Wilmington, NC), Fisher Center at BARD, (NY), Spectrum Dance Theater (Seattle, WA), the Boll Theatre (Detroit, MI), and numerous site-specific activations across the United States.
About Pioneers Go East Collective
Pioneers Go East Collective is a radical Queer laboratory collective dedicated to dance-theater and video art to empower the LGBTQ experience. An artist-driven collective, we create works of high artistic merit, speak out about social issues and build a platform to positively impact the LGBTQ community. Based in NYC, the collective is led by BIPOC and/or immigrant artists and cultural organizers Gian Marco Riccardo Lo Forte, Daniel Diaz, Philip Treviño, Joyce Isabelle, Joey Kipp, Remi Harris, and Anabella Lenzu. We portray same-gender-loving experiences, memory, and marginalization that resonate with contemporary lives. The collective combines stories of vulnerability and courage with popular culture to facilitate communal meaning and advocate for cultural integrity. Our work has been widely presented in NYC at Judson Church, La MaMa, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, St Ann’s Warehouse, The LGBT Center, JACK, Exponential Festival, LMCC’s Process Space at Governors Island, Chashama Gallery, Incubator Arts Project, New Dance Alliance, and Goethe Institut.
