Please join us for Communion, a collaboration between Petra Szilagyi and quori theodor that celebrates the overlap of embodied prayer, food as a psychosexual object, and post-nuclear era alien lore. Through guided imagery and the baking/breaking of ceremonial bread, we will explore the contrast between the African Dogon lore of benevolent, hermaphroditic amphibians from the Sirius star system called Nommo with the US military’s description of visitors (both extraterrestrial and earthly) in terms of threatening other. Invoking the canon of American encounter stories of probing, psychic communication, and abduction/ascension, this work pairs these accounts with their religious correlates. The artists will activate Szilagyi’s sculpture Muddership, an earthen technology for prayer, with bread stamping, eating, drinking, research, parables and telepathic communion.

Collaborator
quori theodor is an invitation to self, unlearning as insubordination. their work addresses questions of capital disobedience and the politics of vulnerability through the media of food. they are a founding member of Spiral Theory Test Kitchen and Circle Time School in partnership with Telfar Global.
