Socrates Sculpture Park

Begin Again is the spirit that has guided Socrates from the start: the belief that spaces can be reimagined and that art in public can open new futures. At forty, Socrates recommits to experimentation, risk, and renewal.

For decades, Socrates has supported artists as they test ideas in public. With increased resources, the Socrates Fellowship places artists at the center—providing time, space, and trust to create ambitious work that shapes culture.

Built on a former illegal dumpsite, Socrates understands ecology as inseparable from restoration, neighborhood revitalization and community well-being. Today, that commitment takes shape through sustainability, environmental education, and stewardship of the waterfront.

In its 40th year, Socrates is opening its archive to the public for the first time. Through an oral history project with artists and community members, we’re preserving the voices and labor that built this Park.

The southwestern tip of the Park—long used behind the scenes—is becoming a publicly accessible waterfront green space, anchored by monumental sculptures by Mark di Suvero, whose vision helped found Socrates.
